Instructors can add an embedded video at any point in a Lessons page. The embedded video described here is a video uploaded from the instructor's computer to the Lessons page. (See How do I embed a YouTube video on a Lessons Page? for directions on embedding a YouTube video.)
Warning: Content uploaded to Lessons is also uploaded to the corresponding folder in Resources. As the Resources tool has a 1GB quota per site, the instructions below are only recommended for short video clips of a few minutes. Longer videos will quickly consume the storage in Resources and instead should be uploaded to Panopto. See the Panopto Guide for more information.
Go to Lessons.
If you titled your page something other than Lessons, select the title of the page as it appears in your Tool Menu.
Select Embed Content on the Page.
Select Upload new file.
- From the dialog box, select Upload new file.
- Then, select Choose Files to browse for a file on your computer.
Select Save.
Note that the title of the selected file now appears to the right of the Choose Files button. Select Save.
Make changes to the embedded video settings. (Optional)
Select Edit.
Move your cursor over the video preview to reveal Lessons item options. This displays the Edit Item dialog box.
Add a description and/or adjust the video pixel size.
- Enter the desired Width and Height for your video in number of pixels. (Optional)
- Enter a description in the Item Description text field. (Optional)
- Then, select Update Item to save any changes.
View updated item on the page.
Notice the video file location.
The video will be uploaded to the Resources folder corresponding to the Lessons page where it was uploaded.
Alert: Uploaded videos are NOT streamed to viewers (i.e., students). The larger the video file, the longer it will take to load on the Lessons page for viewers. As mentioned above, content in Resources is subject to a 1GB quota per Sakai site, so the process outlined here is best for short video clips only.
