When students attempt to take a LockDown Browser required assessment from a standard web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, or Safari), they will be directed to install it on their device. If the LockDown Browser software is already installed, the following guide will walk through the steps to use it.
Save work and close all programs.
It is important to save work and close all programs, as Respondus LockDown Browser requires all other applications to be closed. It will force close all programs on launch and unsaved work will be lost.
Additionally, disconnect any USB devices such as mobile devices or tablets, as these will interfere with LockDown Browser; USB mouses will not interfere with LockDown Browser.
Locate and launch LockDown Browser.
Select LockDown Browser.
Locate the LockDown Browser software on the Desktop. Double-click to launch the application.
Select Yes.
If prompted, select Yes to allow the LockDown Browser application to make changes to the device.
Select Close Process.
If LockDown Browser detects any programs or background processes still running, select Close Process for each program or background process.
Note: If there is any unsaved work in another open program, select Exit LockDown Browser to exit the browser and save work first.
Log onto Sakai.
Using the Loyola Login link, login to Sakai. The Sakai login process in LockDown Browser is the same as for any other web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox).
Select the course.
Select the course from Recent or Pinned Sites.
Select Tests & Quizzes.
Select the Tests & Quizzes tool from the Tool Menu.
Warning: When using Respondus LockDown Browser, it is highly recommended to access tests directly in the Tests & Quizzes tool. Do not access the test from a link in Announcements, Lessons, etc.
Take the test or quiz.
For instructions on taking a test, please refer to How do I submit an assessment (i.e. test or quiz)?
