The directions below reference the new VoiceThread interface ( legacy interface will be available until Summer 2024). To switch to the new VoiceThread now, follow these steps.
Select VoiceThread to Share.
In VoiceThread, locate thread you'd like to share and select the three dots icon on the bottom right corner.
Select the Share (i.e., arrow) icon.
Once the menu appears, select the share icon to view sharing options.
Select Add people from the share menu.
Select the Add People button to create a new contact, share with contacts, or share with members of courses and groups. You can also control current access using the list of users/groups/courses on the screen (e.g. " Comment").
Option 1: Create new contact.
Enter the name and email of your new contact. Select Add when ready.
Option 2: Share with contacts.
Check the boxes next to the contacts to share your VoiceThread with each user. To add more contacts, select Add people. Select Continue when ready.
Tip: If you do not see your course (or group) appear as an option in the secure sharing menu, you may need to authenticate your VoiceThread account within that Sakai site. See How do I authenticate my VoiceThread account with a Sakai site?
Option 3: Share with members of courses and groups.
- Toggle between courses and groups.
- Check the boxes to select courses and/or groups.
- Select Show members to see which users are members of a course or group.
- Select Continue when ready.
Configure permissions and select save.
- Configure permissions for your thread. By default, users can view and comment on the thread once shared. Toggle on/off permissions as desired to allow others to view, comment, and/or edit your thread. Enabled permissions appear in green; disabled permissions appear in black.
- Check the checkbox to notify users by email. (Optional)
- Select Save.
A success message confirms that your thread was securely shared.
Note: Basic sharing does not allow other users to edit your VoiceThread. If you'd like to give other users the option to edit your thread, use secure sharing instead.

Configure permissions and copy link.
- Configure permissions for your thread. Check or uncheck permissions as desired to allow others to view and, optionally, comment on your thread.
- Select Copy Link to copy the thread's URL. This URL may be pasted from your clipboard to share on a Sakai Lessons page, via email, etc.
Share via embed code.
Select Embed.
Select the embed code.
Configure permissions and copy embed code.
- Configure permissions for your thread. By default, users can view and comment on the thread once shared. Check or uncheck permissions as desired to allow others to view and, optionally, comment on your thread.
- Use the dropdown menu to choose preset dimensions, or type in the text fields to manually adjust the height and width of your embedded thread.
- Select Copy Embed Code to copy the thread's embed code. This embed code may be pasted from your clipboard to share on a Sakai Lessons page, a public website, etc.
