When you attempt to take a LockDown Browser required assessment from a standard web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, or Safari), you will be directed to install it on your device. If you have already installed LockDown Browser, the following guide will walk through the steps to use it.
Note: If you have not installed Respondus LockDown Browser for Loyola's Sakai instance, please refer to How do I download and install Respondus LockDown Browser?
Save work and close all programs.
It is important to save your work and close all programs, as Respondus LockDown Browser requires all other applications to be closed. It will force close all programs on launch and unsaved work will be lost.
Additionally, disconnect any USB devices such as mobile devices or tablets, as these will interfere with LockDown Browser; USB mouses will not interfere with LockDown Browser.
Locate and launch LockDown Browser.
[Option 1] Locate LockDown Browser in Launchpad.
Select the Launchpad (rocketship) icon from your dock. Locate LockDown Browser and double-click to open the application.
[Option 2] Locate LockDown Browser in Finder.
Open the Finder, then:
- Select Applications.
- Locate LockDown Browser and double-click to launch the application.
Select LockDown Browser.
Locate the LockDown Browser software on your Desktop. Double-click to launch the application.
If prompted, select Yes to allow the LockDown Browser application to make changes to your device.
Select Close Process.
If LockDown Browser detects any programs or background processes still running, select Close Process for each program or background process.
Note: If you have not already saved your work in another open program, select Exit LockDown Browser to exit the browser and save your work first.
Log in to Sakai.
Enter your UVID and password in the respective fields and select Log In.
Select the course.
Select your course from the course navigation.
Select Tests & Quizzes.
Select the Tests & Quizzes tool from the Tool Menu.
When using Respondus LockDown Browser, it is very important to access your test directly in the Tests & Quizzes tool. Do not access the test from a link in Announcements, Lessons, etc.
Take the test or quiz.
For instructions on taking a test, please refer to How do I submit an assessment (i.e. test or quiz)?
