Before applying LockDown Browser to an exam in Sakai, review the full Respondus LockDown Browser Instructor Guide and administer a practice exam to ensure an optimal experience for students.
LockDown Browser works much like a conventional web browser, though many options are removed and restricted. The distinctive features of LockDown Browser include:
- Assessments (tests) are displayed full-screen and cannot be minimized
- Browser menu and toolbar options are removed, except for Back, Forward, Refresh, and Stop
- Prevents access to other applications including messaging, screen-sharing, virtual machines, and remote desktops
- Printing and screen capture functions are disabled
- Copying and pasting anything to or from an assessment is prevented
- Right-click menu options, function keys, keyboard shortcuts, and task-switching are disabled
- An assessment cannot be exited until the student submits it for grading
- Assessments that are set up for use with LockDown Browser cannot be accessed with other web browsers
Students need a computer with Windows 10 or Mac OS X 10.15 or higher to install and use LockDown Browser.
Chromebooks and mobile devices (i.e. smartphones and tablets) are not compatible with Loyola's configuration of LockDown Browser. Students who do not have a suitable computer may borrow one from Digital Media Services.
