How do I download and install Respondus Lockdown Browser?

When you attempt to take a LockDown Browser required assessment from a standard web browser (i.e., Chrome, Firefox, or Safari), you will be directed to install it on your device. Your instructor may have provided a Practice Exam for you to use to while following this guide.

You will only have to install this software once on your device, and this installation of Respondus LockDown Browser is only for Loyola's Sakai instance.

Optional: You can skip to the Select Install Now step if you download the browser here.

Select Tests & Quizzes.

In your Sakai course, select Tests & Quizzes from the Tool Menu

Select the assessment.

Select the title of the assessment that requires Respondus LockDown Browser.

Select Begin Assessment.

Select the Begin Assessment button.

Select Click here to download.

Select Click here to download. The software download page will launch in a new browser tab.

Select Install Now.

Select the Install Now button to begin the software download.

Run the installer.

Run the installer on a Mac.

Select Save.

Locate the downloaded file in your web browser and select it.

Note: The location of the downloaded file may differ from this image depending on which web browser you use and the personal preferences you have configured for that browser.

Double-click the downloaded file in your Finder to launch the installer.

Review the Software License Agreement and select Continue.

Confirm agreement with the terms of the Software License Agreement and select Agree.

Tip: If you are asked for a password during the installation, it is referring to the admin password for your computer.

Tip: Selecting Move to Trash will only move the installer package to the trash. This selection will not delete the LockDown Browser software from your computer. You no longer need the installer package to run the software.

Run the installer on Windows.

Select Save.

  1. Choose a location for the installer file to download (e.g., Downloads, Desktop, etc.)
  2. Then, select Save.

Select Yes.

If prompted, select Yes to proceed with the installation.

Choose language and select Next.

  1. Select the radio button I accept the terms of the license agreement.
  2. Then, select Next.

Select Finish.
