What is Site Navigation?

Sakai site navigation

The Site Navigation across the top of the screen allows users to access a subset of the Sakai sites in which they are enrolled. Users may also return to Home at any time by selecting the Home button on the far left.

Jump to site tools.

Select the downward arrow next to each site name to expand the Tool Menu for that site. Selecting a tool from that list will take users directly to that area of the selected site.

Note: In the image above, selecting the downward arrow (1) and then Lessons (2) would navigate users to the Lessons tool of SAK 202 001 Su21.

Currently selected site.

Site appears highlighted red

The currently selected site will appear highlighted in a different color in the navigation bar.

Sites Drawer.

Select the sites drawer to view all sites

The top site navigation bar can only display a small number of sites without appearing crowded or expanding to fill several lines. Selecting the Sites Drawer icon will display all of a user's active sites. Sites are grouped by academic term and type of site (i.e., course or project sites). Students, staff, and faculty may also create project sites from the Sites Drawer.

Note: Inactive or Archived sites will not display in the Sites drawer.

Favoriting sites.

Favorite sites by clicking the star icon

Select the star icon (Add to Favorites) next to a site in the list to make it a favorite. This will add it to the persistent navigation buttons (i.e., Site Navigation) at the top of the screen.

Reload to view new navigation buttons.

Select Reload

Upon making changes to favorited sites, users will be prompted to Reload in order to view the newly selected favorites. Select "Reload" or refresh the web browser.

Organizing favorites.

Organize favorites by dragging and dropping

To organize favorites, go to Sites and select the Organize Favorites tab. Drag and drop sites to reorder them. The order in which sites are listed here determines the order in which the buttons appear in the top navigation.

Note: The Home button is fixed and always appears in the same location.

Remove from favorites.

Remove a site from favorites by selecting the star icon

To remove a site from favorites, select the star icon (Remove from favorites) to remove it from the top navigation. Users can do this from either the Organize Favorites tab or the Sites tab.

Reload to view current selections.

Reload

Upon making changes to favorited sites, users will be prompted to Reload in order to view the newly selected favorites. Select "Reload" or refresh the web browser.

Automatically add new sites.

Toggle on or off to automatically add new sites to favorites

To automatically add new sites to Favorites upon enrollment or assignment, keep the default On selection in the Organize Favorites tab. To manually add new sites to Favorites, select Off instead.

Logging out.

Select profile photo or initials and then choose Log Out
  1. Log out of the system by selecting the user name and profile icon in the top navigation bar.
  2. Then, select Log Out from the dropdown menu.
