Instructors can add either a Multiple Choice question or a Short Answer question directly to a Lessons page. The questions can either be in poll form (no correct answer) or in graded form (correct answer).
Select Lessons.

In the target Sakai site, select Lessons from the Tool Menu.
Note: The default or blank Lessons page contains text and images that explain the basic functionality of the Lessons tool.
To add a multiple choice question:
Select Add Content.

Select Add Content from the Actions Menu.
Select Add Question.

Select Add Question from the dialog box.
Select Multiple Choice.

Select the radio button for Multiple Choice.
Add the question text and configure settings.
- Enter the question text.
- Enter the possible answer choices.
- Place a checkmark to the left of the correct answer. (If this is a Multiple Choice poll with no correct answer, leave the correct answer check boxes blank.)
- Select Add New Answer to add additional Multiple Choice answers if needed. (Optional)
- Check the checkbox for Show students a graph of how others responded after they answer the question to display question/poll results to students. (Optional)
- Check the checkbox next to Grade this Question to automatically grade the question and record the score in the Gradebook tool. Also, enter a Gradebook item title and point value in the boxes provided. (Optional)
- Add feedback for correct student answers if desired. (Optional)
- Add feedback for incorrect student answers if desired. (Optional)
- Check the checkbox next to Don't release item until all prerequisites are completed to restrict this item based on completion of a prerequisite.
- Check the checkbox next to Require this item to require students to complete the item before they can move on to subsequent Lessons pages or items. (Optional)
- Select Save to save the question and return to the Lessons page.
Question displays.

The multiple choice question will display on the Lessons page.
To add a short answer question:
Select Add Content.

Select Add Content from the Actions Menu.
Select Add Question.

Select Add Question from the dialog box.
Select Short Answer.

Select the radio button for Short Answer.
Add the question and configure settings.
- Enter the question text.
- Enter the possible answer choices. All of the answers you list will be correct answers. (If this is a Short Answer poll with no correct answer, you may leave the answer boxes blank.)
- Select Add New Answer to add additional Multiple Choice answers if needed. (Optional)
- Check the box next to Grade this Question if you want the question to be automatically graded and recorded in the Gradebook tool. Also, enter a Gradebook item title and point value in the boxes provided. (Optional)
- Add feedback for correct student answers if desired. (Optional)
- Add feedback for incorrect student answers if desired. (Optional)

View question on the page.

The short answer question will display on the Lessons page.
To make changes to the question, select Edit. (Optional)

To edit the question, select the Edit icon (i.e., the pencil icon) that appears when you hover your cursor over the question.
To see student responses, select the Grading Pane.
