How do I embed a video from my computer on a Lessons page?

Updated on

Instructors can add an embedded video at any point in a Lessons page. The embedded video described here is a video saved locally to an instructor's computer. (See How do I embed a YouTube Video in a Lessons page? for directions on embedding a YouTube video.)

Select Lessons.

Select the Lessons tool in the site Tool Menu.

Note: The default or blank Lessons page contains text and images that explain the basic functionality of the Lessons tool.

Select Add Content.

Select Add Content from the Actions Menu.

Select Embed Content on the Page.

Select Embed Content on the Page from the dialog box.

Select Choose Files.

Select Browse... to browse your computer for the video file.

Locate and select the video file on your computer.

Locate the video file on your computer.

  1. Select the file name.
  2. Then, select Open.

Select Save.

Embedded video displays.

The Lessons page will display the embedded video player.

Select Edit. (Optional)

Select the Edit icon (i.e., the pencil icon) that appears when you hover your cursor over the video player.

Add a description and/or adjust the video player size.

  1. Optionally, you may adjust the size of the embedded video player by entering width and height values in pixels.
  2. Enter a description in the Item Description field.
  3. Then, select Update Item to save your changes.

Tip: Adding an Item Description helps visually impaired users better navigate your course. See Making images more accessible for information about adding an item description to embedded content.

Updated embedded video displays.

The embedded video player appears with modified dimensions (if applicable) and the description displayed below the video.

Notice the video file location.

Note that the video file was automatically uploaded to your Resources in a folder with the same name as the Lessons page.

Note: Uploaded videos are NOT streamed to the user. The larger the video file, the longer it will take the video to load on the Lessons page, and the more space it will consume in your site Resources.
