The Recent Announcements area in Home displays announcements from all of the sites in which a user is enrolled. Users may use the dropdown menu to view All items, Public items only, or items By Group. (You must be a member of a group in order to see group announcements.)

The Recent Announcements widget appears in the Home tool.
Customize announcements display. (Optional)
Users may select either All, Public, or By Group from the View dropdown menu to customize the display.
Note: By default, users will only see announcements that have been posted within the last 10 days in this location. (To see announcements posted within the past year, select the Announcements link in the Home Tool Menu.)
