How do I set empty cells to zero for a single grade item?

Gradebook does not include ungraded items in the course grade calculation. Empty cells could result in a higher course grade average for a student. To include a Gradebook item in the course grade calculation, a grade of zero or higher must be entered.

Select Gradebook.

Select Gradebook

In the target Sakai site, select Gradebook from the Tool Menu.

Find the grade item for which you want to assign zeroes.

Select the down arrow and choose Set Score for Empty Cells
  1. Select the dropdown arrow in the grade item column header.
  2. Then, choose Set Score for Empty Cells from the dropdown menu.

Enter the grade assigned to empty cells.

Enter the score and select done
  1. Use the Group/Section dropdown menu to select a specific group or section to assign this grade. (Optional)
  2. Then, enter the grade to assign to all empty cells.
  3. Select Done to assign.

Select Continue.

Select Continue

Select Continue to confirm the score. Individual student scores can be overwritten later if a student turns in late work; to overwrite the score of 0, select the individual student's grade cell and enter the new grade.
