How do I share a VoiceThread?

Updated

Regardless of how VoiceThread is accessed (e.g., through a Sakai course, the mobile app, or the VoiceThread website), threads are private by default. They may be shared securely with a group or shared via URL or embed code.

Select Share.

In Voicethread, hover your cursor over the thread you'd like to share and select the Share (i.e., arrow) icon.

Share with a group.

Select a group.

Select a group from the list on the left.

Tip: If you do not see your course (or group) appear as an option in the secure sharing menu, you may need to authenticate your VoiceThread account within that Sakai site. See How do I authenticate my VoiceThread account with a Sakai site?

Configure permissions and select Share.

  1. Configure permissions for your thread. By default, users can view and comment on the thread once shared. Toggle on/off permissions as desired to allow others to view, comment, and/or edit your thread. Enabled permissions appear in green; disabled permissions appear in black.
  2. Check the checkbox to notify users by email. (Optional)
  3. Select Share.

Success message displays.

A success message confirms that your thread was securely shared.

Share via URL or embed code.

Note: Basic sharing does not allow other users to edit your VoiceThread. If you'd like to give other users the option to edit your thread, use secure sharing instead.

Select Basic.

Select Basic to reveal options for sharing a thread via URL or embed code.

  1. Configure permissions for your thread. By default, users can view and comment on the thread once shared. Check or uncheck permissions as desired to allow others to view and, optionally, comment on your thread.
  2. Select Copy Link to copy the thread's URL. This URL may be pasted from your clipboard to share on a Sakai Lessons page, via email, etc.

Select Embed.

From the basic sharing window, select Embed.

Configure permissions and copy embed code.
  1. Configure permissions for your thread. By default, users can view and comment on the thread once shared. Check or uncheck permissions as desired to allow others to view and, optionally, comment on your thread.
  2. Use the dropdown menu to choose preset dimensions, or type in the text fields to manually adjust the height and width of your embedded thread.
  3. Select Copy Embed Code to copy the thread's embed code. This embed code may be pasted from your clipboard to share on a Sakai Lessons page, a public website, etc.
